Root Canal Treatment in Brighton (Endodontics)

Dickon says about root canal treatment in Brighton ‘Most dentists hate doing root canal treatment because it is hard to do well and is particularly intricate’. I was not a great fan either in my early years as a qualified dentist.  I attended various postgraduate courses to develop my skills. Good root canal treatment is the foundation of much dentistry.  Without being able to carry it out efficiently and to a high standard, other treatment can be compromised. I am now happy that I can provide the best treatment and can be confident that the foundations will last many years.

Dickon, although not a root canal specialist in Brighton, has taken referrals for root canal treatment from local dentists for the last seven years. Any dentists wishing to refer their patients can do so by sending an email from the contact page.

If you wish to have root canal treatment in Brighton of the highest quality then there is no need to look any further than Dickon Adams.  All root canal work is done under high power magnification to ensure a high quality result.

If the nerve of a tooth becomes damaged then it will lose it’s blood supply and die.  This occurs most often if it has a large cavity or previous filling.  Bacteria infect the nerve which may cause severe toothache.

Sometimes the nerve dies without causing any pain.  It can stay like this for years until, and then, for some reason, the bacteria become very active and cause an abscess.

In both cases the bacteria need to be removed to stop them continuing to cause problems.  This is achieved by thoroughly cleaning the channels that run down the roots of the tooth where the nerve is.  You can see the empty space on the picture of a tooth.  Once this is cleaned, all the way down the tooth, it is filled.  This prevents bacteria getting down the root again and causing any problems.  If not carried out well, bacteria remain in the tooth and can cause further abscesses.  The canals can be very fine and curved, making them difficult to clean fully.  It is this difficulty that makes it a procedure that many dentists shy away from, especially on back teeth.

How much does root canal treatment cost?

The most important thing is that it is carried out well.  Redoing root fillings is never as predictable as getting it right first time.  However, it is often possible to get a successful outcome when a root filling is redone.  Dickon will always give you his honest opinion as to whether the tooth warrants further treatment or whether this is likely to be successful.
